Visual Fraction Explorer — Pizza, Pies & Fun Fractions

A fraction makes more sense when a child can point to the missing slice. This 10-page set uses pizzas, pies, and chocolate bars to turn “one half” or “three eighths” into something children ages 7–9 can actually see.

The pages begin with parts of a whole and cover halves through eighths. Children shade sections, label pictures, match written fractions to visual models, and compare fractions with unlike denominators by looking closely at the diagrams. There are also simple addition questions and beginner word problems built around sharing treats equally. One detail I especially like is the chocolate-bar model: its neat rows make it easy to discuss why the same whole can be divided in more than one useful way.

Clear directions are printed on each page, so you can hand over a single sheet for independent practice or sit together and talk through the model. If a comparison causes trouble, ask the child to color both figures before choosing an answer. The drawing often settles an argument that symbols alone cannot.
