Money & Coin Counting — Dollars, Dimes, Nickels & Pennies

Coins are awkward little maths tools. Their size does not match their value, and a nickel can look more important than a dime. This 10-page pack helps ages 6–8 sort out US coins before asking them to count mixed change.

Realistic coin pictures and reference cards support identification of pennies, nickels, dimes, and dollars. The practice then brings together skip counting by 25s and 10s, coin collections, matching groups to totals, and price comparisons. Later exercises include dollars and cents, decimal amounts, shopping lists, and making change.

The pretend lemonade stand is the detail that usually gets the best discussion. Give the child a price, let them choose a payment, and ask what should come back before they write anything. A wrong answer is easier to understand when it means the customer has been handed too many coins.

This set covers coin-only work as well as shopping scenarios and make-change word problems. Answer keys are included for checking, but real coins can be placed over the printed pictures if a learner needs to move each value by hand. Use one focused sheet during a money unit, add the shopping list to a home lesson, or keep the reference card beside independent work.
